BioBlitz and Biodiversity Festival

Last Date:

Location:
DC area National Parks
Details:

Explore the wilds in and around Washington, DC like never before at BioBlitz 2016. The National Park Service is celebrating its 100th birthday with hundreds of BioBlitzes across the country, and the District of Columbia is the main event for this year’s celebration. Scientists will lead teams of students, teachers, and the general public for a fun, two-day race to discover and count all the types of plants, animals, and other organisms in DC area National Parks. Look for DOEE’s fish and wildlife biologists in the filed! Sign up by May 19 to be part of inventories at local parks.

National Geographic and NPS are also hosting a huge Biodiversity Festival on the National Mall, which offers something for everyone. There will be kids' entertainment, interactive exhibits, science talks, live animals, and more.

Start your day with yoga, visit a booth about water, check out the Animal Olympics, or attend the Bugs, Bats, & Brews live music and beer garden. Make sure to visit the DOEE tent! The festival will be held at Constitution Gardens, 9am–5pm each day with a special event Friday evening from 7–10pm.

All BioBlitz and Biodiversity Festival events have FREE admission, but some activities require advance registration.

BioBlitz is a great way to explore our parks. Help spread the word to your friends, family, and neighbors!
