Jimmy Edgerton - Mayor's 2014 Sustainability Award Winner

2 Armadillos

2 Armadillos Co. was born from Jimmy and business partner Greg Katz’s desire to fill a market void for snacks that were both wholesome and flavorful by providing healthy roasted chickpea snacks while using a business model that revitalizes American urban manufacturing.  At the heart of the company, 2Armadillos aims to be a “good neighbor” by being both environmentally and socially responsible. Through the sourcing of its raw materials, packaging, and office power supply, 2Armadillos works to lessen its impact on the environment.   75% of 2Armadillos staff members reside in DC, and with the impressive growth of the business the number of staff has increased from four at the beginning of the year to currently twenty-three.  Jimmy has hired employees from the DC Department of Employment Services’ Project Empowerment, transitional housing programs such as Hope Village and Harbor Lights, and as well as culinary training programs such as DC Central Kitchen. 2Armadillos has also given away over 500 pounds of product to DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) and and the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), and 2Armadillos staff volunteer with CAFB’s Urban Demonstration Farm and provide free healthy snacks and nutritional education to a “Kids Café” events, the annual CAFB conference and other outreach programs.

2Armadillos Co. produces delicious chickpea snacks, JWS provides consulting services, and Newton St Development revitalizes vacant property; food, fitness, and real estate keeps Jimmy going and encourages others to live more sustainably and realize their inner entrepreneur.
