Chesapeake Bay TMDL Implementation – BMP Verification for Wastewater

As a part of its Chesapeake Bay Program commitments, the District of Columbia reports its nutrient and sediment load reduction activities to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) Office. The Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) is the District’s government agency tasked with collecting this information and verifying that it is correct.

DOEE verifies Best Management Practices (BMP) for wastewater dischargers through existing regulatory functions including permits, inspections and monitoring requirements that ensure accountability, proper design, implementation, operation, and maintenance.  Verification through existing regulatory programs ensures the upgraded wastewater facilities, Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), or on-site treatment systems are designed, installed, and maintained over time and are meeting their assigned load reduction targets.

Attached below are supporting documents DOEE uses to verify BMP implementation.
