Foodscapes DC

<< Back to Urban Agriculture main page

Modeled after the successful Riversmart Homes program, Foodscapes DC is a new program that installs edible gardens in District homes. The goal of this program is to build more gardens and gardeners in the District!

Who is eligible?

The Office of Urban Agriculture is looking for homes with low food access in the Anacostia watershed. Use the map below to determine if you are in the target area (highlighted in pink):

What will eligible homes receive?

  1. A site assessment of the property to evaluate edible garden capabilities*
  2. A raised bed installation with drip irrigation
  3. Maintenance services from a professional
  4. Garden coaching and technical support

*Not all properties may be suitable for an edible garden.

How to apply?

All who are interested in participating for the FY23 enrollment program should fill out an interest form by January 6, 2023.

Note: Due to funding limitations in this first year, OUA expects to install 6-10 gardens for the FY23 enrollment program. OUA will communicate with all applicants throughout the selection process about their application status.
