Richard Jackson - Interim Director

Richard Jackson is the Senior Deputy Director of the District Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).  Mr. Jackson has held multiple positions within DOEE since arriving in Washington DC in 2008.  Starting as a hazardous waste Inspector then moved into several leadership roles including Associate Director of the Toxic Substances Division, Deputy Director of the Environmental Services Administration, and now into his current position.  Working with a team of six high-performing deputy directors Mr. Jackson oversees the daily operations of all six administrations within DOEE. 

Mr. Jackson has over 20 years of experience in the Chemical/Environmental Engineering field and 21 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear-trained submariner.  Mr. Jackson’s experiences include hazardous waste management, chemical production and processing, nuclear power plant maintenance, occupational safety, and quality assurance auditing.

Mr. Jackson was instrumental in establishing several new programs in DOEE to serve the residents of the District of Columbia.  Programs in the Rail Safety and Emergency Response Division (RSERD), the Indoor Mold Inspection and Compliance Program and the Site Remediation and Response Program.  Mr. Jackson was the lead in initiating the largest river remediation project in the district. The Anacostia River Sediment Remediation Project (ARSP) is a major step towards creating a cleaner, swimmable, fishable Anacostia River.
