2016 District Sustainability Awards Honor Outstanding Achievements
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, September 29, 2016 — Today, the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) announced that for the first time since 2009, the District Sustainability Awards will be open for a “People’s Choice” award honoring a DC business or organization for outstanding achievement in sustainability. The public is invited to vote online until October 10, 2016.
The nominees for “People’s Choice” are:
- American University
- Atlas Brew Works
- Cultivate the City
- Green Impact Campaign
- OLD CITY Farm and Guild
- TCG, Inc.
- The DC Dentist
Each year, the District Sustainability Awards highlight businesses, individuals, and organizations that are working towards a more sustainable DC. Awardees’ projects and programs support the Mayor’s Sustainable DC plan and include actions taken in energy and water conservation, pollution prevention or reduction, resource conservation, low impact development, stormwater management, green building construction and operation, sustainability initiatives, innovative technology, green products or services, recycling/composting, environmental leadership, environmental education, and employee commitment.
The Mayor’s Sustainable DC plan aims to make the District the nation’s greenest, healthiest, most sustainable city; it encompasses the built environment, climate, energy, food, nature, transportation, waste, water, and the green economy.
Summaries and case studies of award winners become a part of an online library of best environmental practices in the District, posted on the DOEE website, doee.dc.gov.
