The Monitoring Branch is a collection of scientists, technicians and specialists who work to minimize pollutants in the District's air. Responsibilities include:
Ambient Air Quality Monitoring
Staff maintain and operate a 24-hour ambient air monitoring network. They calibrate scientific instruments located at several monitoring stations, collect air samples, measure pollutant concentrations, conduct studies, and report data to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Air Quality Data Assessment and Analysis
Air quality trends are tracked over time, and real-time air quality conditions (air quality forecasts and advisories) are provided to the public on a regular basis.
DCA Airplane Noise Assessment Project
The DCA Airplane Noise Assessment Project was initiated by DOEE to investigate noise impacts to District residents from aircraft noise pollution.
