The goal of “Clearing the Air” is to give the public an inside look at the District's Air Quality Division, everything from the science of air pollution to the laws and regulations that protect our health from harmful emissions. The workshops are free and open (virtually) to the public. A recording of this workshops will be posted below.

Clearing the Air Webinar: Ft. Myer Asphalt Plant 1 Air Quality Permit on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 5:30pm (virtual)
During this meeting, we discussed the Ft. Myer Construction Corporation Asphalt Plant 1 Air Quality Permit. DOEE provided an overview of the new permit and changes from the previous permit. We also talked about our other air quality-related activities in the area.
Clearing the Air Webinar: Improving DC's Air Quality with VW Settlement Funds on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 5:30pm (virtual)
During this meeting, we explained the Volkswagen Settlement money that the District received and how it can be spent. We also gave an update on our projects to reduce diesel emissions, discussed our future plans and answered questions.

Clearing the Air: DOEE's New Air Sensor Loan Program on Thursday, December 12, 2024
DOEE discussed our PurpleAir Monitoring Project, our new air sensor loan program. Through the Project, DOEE loans PurpleAir Monitors to District residents. These outdoor air quality monitors track and collect localized air quality data and give residents information about the air quality near where they live.

December 20, 2022: DOEE hosted a public information session on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 to review the Proposed Adoption of the California Vehicle Emission Standards.
March 15th, 2022: DOEE’s Air Quality Division (AQD) hosted a public information session on the Zero Emission Vehicle Draft Regional Action Plan (for Medium- and Heavy-duty Fleets).

This workshop covered How the District Inspects Air Pollution Sources, including how AQD performs inspections in response to resident concerns.
October 12, 2021 - Vehicle Inspections: This workshop covered vehicle inspections including what they are and why they're a crucial part of keeping our air clean.
August 10, 2021 - How the District Plans for Air Quality: Learn how the District uses planning tools and programs to improve air quality in the District. Also learn about sources of air pollution and some policies DOEE is implementing to reduce them.
July 13, 2021 - Air Quality Trends in the District: Learn how the DOEE analyzes data on air pollutants and what other factors impact local air quality.
May 25, 2021 - How the District Monitors Air Quality: Learn how the DOEE's Air Quality Division monitors air pollution, which air pollutants they measure, and the types of instruments they use.
April 27, 2021 - Air Quality Permits: Permits are issued so that sources of air pollution may only emit limited amounts of pollution, meeting air quality laws. This workshop will cover how DC issues permits and how the public can be involved in this process.
