Urban Forestry Advisory Council

Partnering to Grow and Protect DC

The Urban Forestry Advisory Council (UFAC) was established under the Tree Canopy Protection Amendment Act of 2016 to guide and coordinate efforts that protect and expand the District’s tree canopy.

Co-chaired by the Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Council is composed of 12 members, including representatives from:

  • District and Federal government agencies
  • Pepco
  • DC Water
  • Three community representatives

Our Mission

The Council ensures collaboration among District agencies and partners working toward the city’s ambitious goal: 40% tree canopy coverage by 2032. UFAC advises on policies, programs, and partnerships that maintain, protect, and grow the District’s urban forest.
