Look for the DDOE Booth at the Local 11th Street Bridge Celebration – Bridging Communities, “One City”

The 11th Street Bridge Project is part of the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, and as partners of the AWI, DDOE has been invited to participate in the September 7th celebration.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will celebrate its decade of transportation advancements and the full opening of the local bridge to two-way traffic, bicyclist, and pedestrians.

The Bridging Communities -- “One City”-- themed free family event will span the length of the local bridge and include entertainment, exhibits, food and other activities. Guests will hear presentations from the Mayor and other dignitaries, and enjoy entertainment by a DJ, high school marching bands, a water spray from DC Fire Department, and much more. Local businesses and government agencies will host exhibit tables and provide information and the opportunity for networking and a “kids’ zone” will feature Truck-a-Roo!

A portion of the celebration will include a dedication of the Local bridge as the “11th Street Officer Kevin J. Welsh Memorial Bridge,” honoring the fallen Metropolitan Police Department Officer who died in 1986 while attempting to rescue a distressed citizen from the Anacostia.
