White-Nose Syndrome in the District

<< Back to Bats in the District main page

White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) is a fatal fungal disease for bats. The characteristic white fungus from which the disease derives its name appears on the muzzles, ears, and wing membranes of many bat species. With the rapid spread of this disease, many populations have declined by up to 90%.
