Surface Water Quality - SITE Study

<< Back to Surface Water Quality Standards

SITE Study

The socioeconomic, institutional, technological, and environmental (SITE) study is required by the Water Pollution Control Act of 1984, and it must consider the impacts of the changes made to the water quality standards. D.C. Official Code 8-103.04(c) states that “Before promulgating the classifications, criteria, and guidelines, the Mayor shall consider the environmental, technological, institutional, and socio-economic impact of applying and enforcing them.

In addition to considering impacts, the purpose of the study is to document the proposed changes to the water quality standards and provide a rationale for why the District is proposing to adopt the new water quality criteria.
