Green Trades DC Technical Training

The Green Trades DC Program recruits and trains District residents ages 18 and over to prepare for careers as journey-level electricians to help the District meet its solar, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals. The program operates through a partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 chapter and offers two options:

A 12-month electrical pre-apprenticeship program

  • Wages start at $24+/hour
  • Residents are able to learn critical skills through on-the-job training and classroom learning prior to applying for the apprenticeship program
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis

A 48-month electrical apprenticeship program

  • Wages start at $24+/hour
  • Allows residents to start their journey to becoming journey-level electricians
  • Apprentices begin receiving full benefits (i.e., health, dental, vision, etc.) for themselves and their families
  • Applicants must complete the IBEW Apprenticeship Test, apply BEFORE March 31st and if selected, interview with the grantee’s panel.
    - Selection is subject to the grantee’s panel recommendation
  • The deadline for applications is March 31, 2024
