In 2011, DOEE partnered with Casey Trees to complete a multi-tiered green infrastructure demonstration site at Casey Trees headquarters in Northeast DC. This project included three varieties of green roof systems totaling 2,500 square feet, a 1,500-gallon rainwater harvest system, and two bioretentions. The rainwater harvest system collects water that is used to irrigate the bioretentions. The site was designed to manage the one-inch storm and can retain, use and infiltrate 35,000 gallons of stormwater annually. This project demonstrates how a high-density small footprint redevelopment is able to manage all annual runoff onsite.
