Washington, DC – The District of Columbia’s efforts to build a green, sustainable city go on display February 5 in Woodley Park. “DC Green Street,” led by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), will bring together the District Government agencies, nonprofits and companies most involved in clean energy and environmental protection to talk about the growing field of green jobs.
The Green Jobs Expo, including DC Green Street, is free to the public from 9 am to 6 pm Thursday, February 5 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road, NW. The hotel property is adjacent to the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan station on Metro’s Red Line.
“It’s no stretch to say the District will be home to tens of thousands of new green jobs in the coming years,” said DDOE Director George S. Hawkins. “These are landscapers and climate control technicians all the way to the architects and engineers who design and construct green buildings. They’ll all be represented at the Expo.”
The Green Jobs Expo will also feature the Green Jobs Expo Theater, which offers presentations throughout the day on trends and academic programs in green jobs. Examples of these presentations include: Achieving Sustainability @ Duke, Green Career Experts Forum and Youth Voices Rising: The Flavor Behind the New Green Movement.
The Green Jobs Expo is part of the 2009 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference, February 4–6, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. The conference will unite more than 2,000 labor, environmental and business advocates as part of the leading forum in 2009 for shaping the national debate about investment in clean energy and green technologies, and for sharing ideas and strategies for a refashioned, green economy.
