DOEE will release Sustainable DC 4th Year Progress Report and host panel discussion, moderated by Greater Greater Washington’s David Alpert

(WASHINGTON, DC) April 18, 2017 – Tomorrow, the Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) will host a launch party and panel discussion at the Wunder Garten in NoMa. The event includes the release of the 2017 Sustainable DC Progress Report and will kick off a year-long community planning process to update the District’s sustainability plan, Sustainable DC 2.0. At the event, DOEE Director Tommy Wells will reflect on the last five years of progress since the plan was first developed and David Alpert of Greater Greater Washington will moderate a lively panel discussion on the future of sustainability in the District. The event’s panelists include Harriet Tregoning (city planner and policy work), Kahlil Kettering (The Nature Conservancy), and Veronica O. Davis (Nspiregreen LLC).

sustainable.dc.gov, first released in 2013, is the District of Columbia’s plan to become the healthiest, greenest, and most livable city in the United States in just one generation. The 2017 Progress Report boasts the achievements of more than a dozen District Government agencies and community partners. Of the plan’s 143 actions, 25% are complete and 72% are underway.

Embarking on its fifth year, Sustainable DC 2.0 will be a large-scale community engagement process to reflect changes in policies, programs, and technology as we make progress towards the plan’s 2032 goals. To launch this endeavor, the April 19 panel will explore what the future of sustainability in the District looks like and what our priorities and challenges should be for the next 15 years.
