To mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the District, Mayor Bowser issued a March 24 order requiring temporary closure of non-essential businesses.

DOEE wants to assure you that beekeeping has been deemed essential. Therefore, beekeepers can continue to visit and manage their honey bee colonies at their apiaries, whether they are at their homes or other locations in the District, and respond to swarm calls for honey bee removal. Beekeepers must continue to follow the guidance on social distancing when interacting with the public. The District recognizes the importance of beekeeping and supports beekeepers during this difficult time. For more information about COVID-19 and the District’s response, visit coronavirus.dc.gov.
