The Anacostia River watershed covers portions of Maryland and the District. Most of the non-tidal tributaries lie within Maryland, and most of the tidal waters are within the District’s boundaries. This total maximum daily load (TMDL) for trash was developed through a cooperative agreement between US Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 (EPA), the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).
This document establishes TMDLs for trash in the tidal and non-tidal portions of the Anacostia River watershed in both Maryland and the District that will allow for the attainment of their respective designated uses. The TMDL was approved by EPA on September 21, 2010.
