12th ANNUAL FAMILY AND YOUTH CASTING CALL, DOEE’S FAMILY-FRIENDLY FISHING EVENT, TO BE HELD APRIL 28
DOEE launches new, user-friendly, one-stop fishing license portal

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, April 24, 2018 — The Department of Energy and Environment’s (DOEE) 12th Annual Family and Youth Casting Call will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018. This year’s event will be held outside of DOEE’s Aquatic Resources Education Center in Anacostia Park.

The Family & Youth Casting Call is a FREE family event where area youth are invited to learn basic fishing skills and practice catch-and-release fishing. DOEE will provide all fishing rods and bait, and participants will have the opportunity to learn how to cast, create fish art, and learn about the watersheds where the real DC lunkers lurk, thanks to National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and several other partnering organizations listed below. The event is part of the Year of the Anacostia celebration-- a yearlong invitation to honor history, celebrate progress, and enjoy the Anacostia River and its surroundings as we envision an inspiring future.

The Family and Youth Casting Call will take place rain or shine. All participating youth must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Registration is strongly recommended in order to secure equipment for a one hour fishing spot.

All Casting Call participants between the ages of 16 and 64 must possess a valid fishing license. To make that process as easy as possible, today, DOEE launched a brand new, user-friendly web portal for purchasing fishing licenses; the new one-stop web page enables customers to obtain a fishing license with just two clicks. Licenses are $10 for DC residents and $13 for non-residents; they are valid through December 31, 2018.

Visit DOEE's fishing license page to purchase and print your license ahead of Saturday’s event.
