Washington, DC – Businesses in the District can combine their buying power and lower their utility bills, thanks to a program at the District Department of the Environment (DDOE). The DC Municipal Aggregation Program (DC MAP) has saved taxpayers more than $35 million since it began in 2004.

Commercial utility customers again have the opportunity to take part in DC MAP and save a significant amount of money. A real-time reverse auction, run by Co-eXprise, Inc., will allow utility suppliers to offer successively lower bids. The winning bidder will sell energy to the group.

“Simply put, there is no downside to this program,” said George Hawkins, DDOE Director.   “The District Government and local businesses can lower their operating costs simply by opting in, and by paying their bill to a different company.”

DDOE will reach out to businesses that have taken part in DC MAP in the past, including universities and hospitals. The first information session will take place  October 21, 2008 at 10 a.m., at the Frank D. Reeves Center second floor conference room, 2000 14th Street, NW.

For more information, or to opt into DC MAP, call DDOE’s Energy Information Line at (202) 673-6700 or email [email protected].
