Free fishing event highlights the science, art, and skill of the sport of angling

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, May 16, 2017 — The Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) announced today that the 11th Annual Family and Youth Casting Call will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 – which is also Kids to Parks Day. This year’s event will be held at a new location: the pond at National Park Service’s Constitution Gardens. The Casting Call is produced by DOEE and its event partners, National Park Trust, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Family & Youth Casting Call is a FREE family event where area youth are invited to learn basic fishing skills and practice catch-and-release fishing. DOEE will provide all fishing rods and bait, and participants will have the opportunity to learn common fishing knots, create fish prints, and learn about the watersheds where the real DC lunkers lurk.

In celebration of Kids to Parks Day, participants will also have the chance to meet and have photos taken with Nature Cat and Buddy Bison (Nature Cat’s newest park friend).
