Participate in Change a Light, Change the World Campaign

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

From October 1 through November 30, 2007, the District Department of Environment (DDOE), along with the ENERGY STAR® Change a Light, Change the World campaign, is calling on District residents to join the national challenge to save energy and money while protecting the environment for future generations with one simple action -changing a light bulb!

As part of this national movement, DDOE has volunteered to encourage 1,000 residents to pledge to participate and replace at least one incandescent bulb with a fluorescent light or fixture that has earned the government's ENERGY STAR for energy efficiency. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these pledges will save $28,180 in energy costs, 282,000 kWh of energy, and prevent 446,000 pounds of greenhouses gases from being emitted into the air.

ENERGY STAR rated bulbs use one-third of the energy of a standard incandescent light, last up to 10 times longer, and save an average of $30 or more in energy costs over its lifetime. The more bulbs or fixtures you change, the more you save!

To be one of the District Department of Environment's 1,000 volunteers, please take the pledge today.
