Individuals seeking a DOEE mold assessment or mold remediation license must apply online. The license term is two years. The application fee is $300; renewal is $105.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, must have passed a DOEE‑approved mold examination within the past two years, and must meet one of the following education and experience pathways:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
At least three years of relevant mold field experience.
Provide proof of completing at least two mold assessment or remediation jobs per year over three years (six total).
- Associate Degree or Higher
At least 30 semester hours in microbiology, engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a related scientific field from an accredited institution.
At least one year of relevant field experience.
Provide proof of completing at least two mold assessment or remediation jobs within a one‑year period.
- Professional Certification
Certified industrial hygienist, professional engineer, registered sanitarian, certified safety professional, or registered architect.
At least six months of relevant field experience.
Provide proof of completing at least one mold assessment or remediation job within the past year (or at minimum within the last six months).
Applicants must submit documentation such as job reports, invoices, or brief descriptions with service dates to verify experience.
Insurance Requirement
Applicants must upload or submit proof of insurance:
Assessment professionals/companies: at least $1,000,000 in general liability and errors and omissions coverage, including mold-related coverage.
Remediation professionals/companies: at least $1,000,000 in general liability coverage including mold‑related and pollution coverage.
Examination Requirement
Applicants must submit a certificate showing they passed a DOEE‑approved mold assessment or remediation exam.
