The Rail Safety Program (RSP) is responsible for ensuring that District residents and railroad employees are protected from unsafe practices on freight and passenger railroads by enforcing state and federal rail safety rules, regulations, and inspection efforts. The RSP accomplishes these goals by carrying out proactive assessments of potential risks before they create dangerous conditions. RSP rail safety inspectors investigate rail accidents, safety related complaints, and recommend safety improvements to ensure safe rail transit throughout the District and protect our workforce, residents, visitors, and ecosystems.
