2017 Electric Vehicle Grand Prix

Last Date:

Location:
RFK Stadium, Lot 6 - Oklahoma Ave and Benning Road NE
Details:

14 area high schools will race their own, hand-built electric vehicles.

24 teams representing 14 local high schools will compete in the DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix (DCEVGP), hosted by the Department of Energy and Environment and Global EEE. The DCEVGP is an educational program where students apply their scientific, mathematic, and engineering talents as they design their own electric racing vehicles. Under the guidance of their teachers and engineers from Global EEE, students construct their entry cars from the ground up and push them to the limits in this exciting annual race.

The DCEVGP consists of two half-hour heats with mandatory driver changes every 15 minutes. The track, looping around Lot 6 of RFK stadium, tests both the efficiency of the vehicles as well as the skill level of the drivers. The winner is determined by the team with the highest number of successful laps.

Attendees are also encouraged to check out the 10th Annual Truck Touch, hosted by Department of Public Works in RFK’s Lot 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – right next to the DCEVGP. Both events are free to the public and require no registration.
