What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?
IPM is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage economically, and with a strong preference for examining a range of cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical practices and selecting a method presenting the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

On August 9th, 2012 the Pesticide Education and Control Amendment Act of 2012 (PECA) was enacted by the Council of The District of Columbia. An important part of this act requires that District Agency, District owned and occupied properties, Schools and Child Occupied Facilities have an IPM policy and program in place which is approved by the DOEE before any applications of pesticides are made at your facility. Your Agency, Firm or Facility may fall under the regulations pertaining to this act.
How to submit your IPM Plan to DOEE
As a continued effort to comply with PECA, all Child-Occupied Facilities, open for business in the District of Columbia, must submit a written IPM Plan for the facility to DOEE Pesticides Branch. Once received, the plan will be reviewed and approved. Pesticides cannot be applied in your facility, without an approved IPM Plan. Failure to submit your plan may result in enforcement action.
