DOEE's Lead Compliance and Enforcement Branch conducts Pro-Active Lead Inspections at multifamily properties built before 1978. The program focuses on primary prevention and aims to prevent children from being exposed to lead poisoning and educating property managers/owners of the District’s lead law. The fundamental goals of the inspection are:
- To protect children from lead exposure in multifamily properties; and
- To eliminate potential lead-based paint hazards before they can negatively impact the health of children living within these properties.
Special attention is given to repeat offender multifamily properties.
