<< Back to SRCs Reduce Stormwater Runoff with Green Infrastructure
Green infrastructure (GI) practices provide many environmental and economic benefits and protect against the harmful impacts of stormwater runoff. There are many types of GI, including rain gardens, green roofs, and similar practices.
The Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) has several regulatory and incentive-based programs that promote GI projects, especially in the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4):
- Properties that trigger the District’s stormwater management regulations must install GI to retain runoff in large storm events.
- Properties that install GI voluntarily can generate Stormwater Retention Credits (SRCs)to sell in the District’s innovative market for stormwater runoff.
- DOEE provides financial incentives to help District residents and property owners install GI.
- You can receive a discount on the stormwater impervious fees on your water bill through RiverSmart Rewards.
