Project Status: The project is currently under design with final designs expected in Summer of 2024, and restoration work and plantings to take place in Fall 2024. 

 

Project Overview: DOEE recently award a design-build contract to Coastal Resources, Inc., to design and build a wetland restoration project Behind homes on the 3600 blocks of 36th Pl. SE, Suitland Rd. SE, and Alabama Ave. SE. The current wetland at the site is completely overgrown with non-native invasive plant species. Project work will remove and control the invasive plants, possibly regrade the site to improve stability and flow patterns, and then revegetate the site with native plant species.

Project Objectives:  

  • Restore the wetland; ​
  • Remove and control all invasive plant species;​
  • Remove debris in the Project Area;​
  • Stabilize slopes, project area, and stream with natural materials; ​
  • Revegetate site with native plantings;​
  • Create wildlife habitat that is also a vibrant natural area; and​
  • Provide access so that residents adjacent to the site can access the site as needed. ​
