The Monitoring Branch is a collection of scientists, technicians and specialists who work to minimize pollutants in the District's air. Responsibilities include:

Ambient Air Quality Monitoring

Staff maintain and operate a 24-hour ambient air monitoring network. They calibrate scientific instruments located at several monitoring stations, collect air samples, measure pollutant concentrations, conduct studies, and report data to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

District’s Annual Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan for 2020
The District’s Annual Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan for 2020 has been submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for review. The public comment period for the plan ended on June 7, 2019 as posted in the Notice of Public Comment.

Air Quality Data Assessment and Analysis

Air quality trends are tracked over time, and real-time air quality conditions (air quality forecasts and advisories) are provided to the public on a regular basis.

Airplane Noise Assessment Project DCA Airplane Noise Assessment Project

The DCA Airplane Noise Assessment Project was initiated by DOEE to investigate noise impacts to District residents from aircraft noise pollution.
