Location: 3360 Erie St. SE
Project Status:
The prime contractor, Actaeon, LLC., began construction in March 2020. Stream restoration work is expected to take 5 months to complete.
Project Overview:
Branch Avenue Park is a triangular wooded parcel bounded by Branch Avenue to the west, Erie Street to the northeast, and Southern Avenue to the southeast. Within this Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) property, a stream flows from northwest to southeast, entering the park from an enclosed storm drain system under Branch Avenue and leaving the park through an enclosed storm drain system under Southern Avenue. The downstream storm drain system crosses Southern Avenue into Prince George’s County, Maryland and discharges into Oxon Run, a tributary to the Potomac River
The District contracted with Actaeon LLC and Straughan Environmental Inc. to design and construct a stream restoration project.
Project Goals:
- DOEE’s goal is to restore natural stream flows through Branch Avenue park to reduce erosion and stormwater pollution and provide enhanced wildlife habitat by removing invasive plant species and planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials.
- DPR plans to provide safe public access to the park.
