Major sources (of air pollutant emissions) in the District include power plants, heating plants and large printing facilities. Permits include conditions intended to minimize emissions of air pollutants and ensure proper operation of the regulated sources.

The Anacostia River watershed covers portions of Maryland and the District. Most of the non-tidal tributaries lie within Maryland, and most of the tidal waters are within the District’s boundaries.
